This magnetizing hill station has acquired its name from the most devoted goddess of the time "Goddess Shyamala". The goddess was believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Kali.

Besides Mall road, the Lower Bazaar, Tibetan Bazaar and Lakkar Bazaar are the famous places to shop which will surely be a delight to shopaholics. The bazaars includes a myriad of handicrafts, wood, and metalwork items, exclusive shawls, pullovers, local tweeds, Wooden articles and Toys, Tibetan carpets and pickles, specialized jams and squashes of Shimla. The Lakkar Bazaar and Tibetan Market are the exceptional market places that boast wooden handicrafts and fancy imported items respectively.
