Among the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, Bete Giorgis (the house of Saint George) is found southwest of the village on a rocky ground. The temple is cross-shaped, perhaps the most attractive structure of Lalibela’s rock-hewn churches. When Lalibela had finished constructing the churches, Saint George riding on his white horse revealed himself to Lalibela to tell him that there was no temple in his name. Taking George’s word, Lalibela went to this rocky field and constructed this amazing temple.

The introduction of Christianity into Ethiopia dates back to the apostolic era. The book of Acts, chapter 8:27 – 38, tell us that Saint Philip, the Apostle baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch – treasure of Candace Queen of Ethiopia. When you think of travel to Bulgaria, what comes to mind first? For me, one of the cool things about visiting this fetching little Balkan country is its touches of exoticism, part of an ancient cultural heritage that stretches back to 5,000 BC, and which I find most noticeable in its Eastern Orthodox churches. As with church architecture in Russia, here you’ll find plenty of onion domes, but in Bulgaria you’ll also spot features you won’t find in Russia, such as arches influenced by Islam (not

Any visit to the Netherlands in general and Amsterdam in particular offers plenty of evidence that tolerance — you might even call it an intolerance of intolerance — is part of the national character, from the famous smoke shops to the Red Light District. Those two examples, mind you, are not quite as “out there” as they once were, but even so, you will not confuse live-and-let-live Amsterdam with Salt Lake City — or even with London or Berlin.

This tolerance has long extended to religion, too

So Ethiopian Orthodox Church history recounts.

The following writings are to give histories and descriptions about the churches and monasteries scattered all over Ethiopia. Read those words
