A Quick Guide to Spending 24 Hours in Phuket

The wonderful island of Phuket has long been a popular tourist destination. The island is known for its beaches and nightlife, but tragedy struck in 2004 when a powerful tsunami devastated the region.

Luckily, recovery has been swift. Phuket is once again an island paradise. There is plenty for everyone to do, from sitting on the beach to taking an elephant ride.

Enter the Town of Kamala


Typically, when you visit Phuket, you will arrive in the town of Kamala. This beautiful beach town is dotted with recently renovated cottages. Near the beach, you will find plenty of bars, as well as food stalls with Thai cuisine.


Shortly after arriving in Kamala, you should take a stroll along the beach. Make sure that you check out the Chef Roti Stand. You can get a crepe-like roti with a Thai twist. It is filled with egg and fruit and then topped with a small amount of condensed milk.


View a 147-Foot Buddha


After getting your refreshments in Kamala, you should head over to the town of Chalong. Follow the red and white signs that point you towards the top of Mount Nagakerd.


As you approach, you will begin to see parts of the 147-foot tall Big Buddha. This is truly a marvelous site, even though it is still being constructed. Along with the humongous Buddha statue, you will get a great view of the Andaman Sea.

Authentic Thai Cooking


You will need nourishment after taking the trip to see the Buddha. You could head back to the town to find authentic Thai cooking. Near the boardwalk of the Royal Phuket Marina, you can enjoy a wide range of delicacies, including lobster ravioli and curried fried rice with seafood.


Ride an Elephant


You could relax with a short 30-minute elephant ride. There are a few different safari companies in Phuket that offer affordable elephant rides. If you feel that a 30-minute ride is not long enough, then you can pay more for a fullhour ride.

Tour the Jungle


Nearby you will find a wildlife sanctuary that gives you the perfect opportunity to explore the jungle. Non-profit organizations organize tours through the rainforest. Watch gibbons and other animals in their natural habitat. One of these tours will take you to the Bang Pae Waterfall, where you can cool down with a quick dip in the water.

If you are a fan of original art, then you will want to visit the small town of Rawai. This town is located near the southern tip of the island and has a large community of local artists. There are numerous galleries, street vendors, and talented art for you to browse.

 Get Dinner in Phuket Town


Towards the end of the day, visit Phuket town to find fresh grilled fish balls, barbecued pork buns, and other delicious meals for dinner. Most of these stalls have incredibly affordable prices and give you large servings. You will quickly fill up and be ready for the next stage of your trip.

 Watch Muay Thai Boxing


While your dinner is settling in your stomach, travel to the Suwit Stadium to watch real Muay Thai boxing. You can catch a fight on Friday nights and may occasionally find a fight other days of the week.


These boxing events are major draws for tourists and locals. You will be entertained with dances and music, along with a variety of fights. They typically start with younger fighters and work their way up to the main fight card.

 Enjoy Drinks on the Beach


You can finish up your day with drinks on the beach. You can find go-go clubs, hostess bars, dive bars, family restaurants, and every other type of establishment. The nightlife on Phuket is booming. The perfect way to end a full day of exploration, you get to relax on the beach with a cold beverage in your hand or travel from bar to bar.

 Find a Hotel and Get Some Rest


You still have one last place to visit before your day is over – you need to find a place to sleep. Near the bars and restaurants that crowd the beaches of Phuket, you will have no problem finding a wide range of hotels, resorts, cottages, and cabins. Decide whether you want rustic or modern accommodations and simply walk up and down the beach until you find the right place to lay your head.
