We all know that budgeting for a holiday can be a task and after we have paid for the flights, hotel, and a car hire in Alicante, we then have to think about how much we can afford to spend when we have arrived.

To help you save on the pennies here are 5 great free things that you can do or see in Alicante:

1. Beaches

To relax or have fun on the sandy shores of Alicante is free! The most popular beach in the area is San Juan; the beach follows the coastline for 7km and has some of the finest sands in Spain! A great way to save is to pack your own picnic for a day at the beach, but if you do need to stock up on suppliers throughout the day the city end of the beach has a collection of cafes and shops.

2. Castlillo de Santa Barbara

This historic castle that stands high up on a hillside overlooking the city is a great for those who love to explore and learn! Entry to the castle is free, however if you wish to take the easy route up to the castle via the elevator found on Avenue de Juan Baustista Lafora, you will need to pay a small charge. At the castle you will find cannons, dungeons, a moat and a palace; all you could ask for in a castle visit!

3. Parks

The city is dotted with lovely green park areas and if just one could be recommended it would be El Palmeral Park. It is located in the south of city close to the shoreline and features waterfalls, palm trees, lakes, picnic areas and terrace cafes. You can also enjoy a bike ride around the parks designated track. Within the main summer season there is often shows performed across the park which include music, children’s theatre and puppet shows.

4 .Museums

The city of Alicante has a number of interesting museums however the Museum of Contempory Art has free admission so it is definitely worth a visit.  The building in which the modern pieces of artwork can found is actually one of the oldest in Alicante, it dates back to 1687 and was originally a granary. Some of the artists whose work is on display is; Picasso, Dali and Bacon.

5 .Marina

The busy Alicante marina provides many a people watching moment! You can watch the rich bring in their yachts, the fisherman dock their catch or simply watch the other tourists passing you by. Along the Marina there are plenty of great spots for you to enjoy the stunning ocean views and if you want to wander amongst tourist shops there are plenty of those too!
