Beijing Hutongs: Old China Through The Alleys

There’s something fantastical about the rickety looking rickshaws that scoot around Beijing. Okay, there are humans driving the things, but they seem too casual, too philosophical, to be in control, in the western sense of the word. No eyes …

Foshan, China: One Glass, I Said

We tumble into room 2817 at the Intercontinental in Foshan, China, with dreams of room service and maybe even a little telelvision. We flop on the bed, delighted to escape the mayhem in the buffet restaurant downstairs.

I dial room service.

Two ‘roast half chicken’ and one glass of white wine, please.

Michel has a Tsingtao beer out the room fridge.

Hanoi, the Moon, and the Women

I was feeling a little sorry for myself, a little lonely as I watched the moon rise over Hoan Kiem Lake this steamy Wednesday evening. It wasn’t anything specific, nor too extreme, more a lostness, a kind of ennui.

Most travelers have it some time or another. You’re watching the passing show, enchanted, transported, when you suddenly realize you’re not…

In Dongguan, China, The Avenue That Loves People

I seldom venture from the posh Parklane Hotel here in Dongguan. It’s grand enough to take it personally. The surrounding avenues and architecture are monumental, a person could get lost crossing the road. So I am reluctant, you understand. And I normally arrive late on a muggy southern China night and leave early the next morning so there has been no need. Today is different. They will pick me up in the smart car tomorrow. I arrived last night. That’s a whole day. The size and weight of…

Good morning, Gail, and welcome to Tripatini! It's great to have you with us -- and we think you'll find our site productive as well as interesting and enjoyable.

To get the most out of Tripatini, we recommend you take a moment to join several other of our many groups which you may find of particular use, such as China; Thailand; Vietnam; South Africa; India; Colorado and the other 49 states; Eating/Drinking the World, and plenty of others covering many other topics and most destinations across the globe.

FYI, on your profile you'll see a green bar marked "Text Box," which you can turn into a box containing not just text but also photos and even videos about yourself, your travels, your writing/outlets, and more.

Finally, if you would, please be so kind as to spread the word among your travel-interested friends, family, colleagues, associates, and clients. It's fast and easy to use our "INVITE" function above left on the navigation bar to enter e-mails (even your whole list at once!). Finally, please join our Facebook fan page and follow us on Twitter (see front page info box); we'll be happy to reciprocate!

Thanks much for joining us; we wish you an outstanding rest of 2010, and it goes without saying that we look forward to seeing you online.

Cheers!
