California has over 3,300 licensed wineries (almost half of the U.S. total) in 112 American Viticultural Areas (AVA). Out of all of those, this is my all-time favorite wine area. I'm not a tour fan, rather just get a map and do it myself. Your hotel or the chamber of commerce should have wine touring maps and free tasting coupons.

Meredith: Another great way to explore the wineries is through with a scenic drive, like this one: http://www.myscenicdrives.com/drives/california/paso-robles-wine-co... . We have a couple others around there depending on how far you wish to venture out. Hope this helps!

Haven't done a formal write up on the San Diego or north SD coast yet but have spent a lot of time there over the years. My sister has lived in the area for close to 40 years, from Escondido to IB, so a lot of our trips that way tend to be family visits. I need to go there just to tour, without the family obs, and get some more flavor. We have two reports on the site, one for the SD Railroad museum in Campo, and our most popular page on the site (seriously, has more hits that any other page by far) is our Fields of Dreams report on Petco Park.

Way back when, before it was mainly a tourist destination, I used to work with the flower fields people and the Nurseryland (is it still there?) at that exit in Carlsbad back when I was a wholesale nursery salesman fresh out of college.

This has been a fun blog to follow. Hey Darryl, when are you coming to Carlsbad? You will be pleasantly suprised. We're coastall on San Diego County's scenic north shore and lots of fun dining and water sports, great lagoons for walking and birding, The Museum of Making Music, LEGOLAND and SeaLife Aquarium. I would be happy to show you some of our hidden gems.

Meredith, the best restaurants we found in Paso Robles were Springside for breakfast, Joe's Place for breakfast or lunch, and Buona Tavola for dinner. A short drive would also take you to the coast where we like Hoppe's in Cayucos. Click on the links to go to each restaurant's web page.

We are planning on visiting Paso Robles in Sept for our Son's Wedding at the Cass Winery. It will be our first visit and we are looking forward to the wine tasting. Got some good tips from The World on Wheels link on which wineries to check out. Any other tips on must see places or must vist restaurants would be appreciated.
