Winter Hot Spots When Visiting Down Under

While many feel Australia with its Barrier Reefs, Kangaroos and beaches is a great destination during the warm summer months, it also has a ton of great attractions and activities during the wintertime.

The “Land Down Under” experiences its winter between the months of June through August. During that time of year tourists from all over the world come to Australia for some incredible road trips.

One incredible place to visit during the winter is the Australia Outback center in heart of the steaming desert. It much more comfortable which means much more enjoyable. During this time of year, hire a car or budget truck rental and take a road trip from tropical Darwin to Uluru. This drive is the closest you will ever get to drive on the moon while still being on earth.

The winter months in Australia also features great festivals. One you will not want to miss is VIVID Sydney. This incredible event showcases the largest part of lights, music and creativity in the Southern Hemisphere.  While at the festival you can take in free light shows, live music and even LED-bejeweled boats! This is truly something you will never see anywhere else.

If you’re a sports fan, Australia during the winter is definitely not lacking competition! From Rugby to Cricket, there is always a team to enjoy and root for.

During the colder months, Southern Hemisphere whales migrate north for the winter to breed. That means passing many parts of Australia’s coasts including in areas such as New South Wales, Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria to do some very exciting whale watching!

You can’t go wrong with skiing and snow boarding in Australia. During that time millions of tourists trek up some of the best mountain slopes in the world to get the thrill of coming down the slopes at sometimes-record speeds.

If you are a big fan of the holiday season, you should know that two hours from Sydney the fun town of Katoomba in the Blue Mountains celebrates Christmas in July! During this “Yulefest” the town goes all out with Xmas spirit.

If you need another reason to take the trip “down under”, tourism is much more affordable in Australia during the wintertime. There are fewer tourists during this time of year, which can translate into much better deals!

Winter is right upon us here in Australia. What are you waiting for? There are so many fun things to do!
