My family and I had the pleasure of staying in this all-suite hotel with its magical Mexican ambiance back in 1997. When we were recently invited to return to Velas Vallarta, we were delighted, but wondered if the past 18 years would have taken a toll on this resort.

While close to Puerto Vallarta's famed nightlife, art galleries and gourmet restaurants - which have sprung up over the years thanks to the fame brought to this once sleepy town by Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor during the 1963 filming of John Houston's Night of the Iguana - Velas Vallarta offers a wide assortment of gourmet Mexican and Italian food along with fresh local seafood.
What do you do after dinner if you don't feel like sampling some of PV's nightlife?
