Ayurveda, the science of life, was a medicine practiced in India since 5000 years ago. It is gaining prominence in modern day as there are no side effects of Ayurveda. More and more people are showing faith & belief in this holistic and alternative medicine.

Ayurvedic medicine is based on the concept of 3 doshas or Tridosha, Vata (the lightest), Kapha (heaviest) and Pitta (medium built). Doshas are mainly the “force” or “faults” in the basic built up of our body and can go easily out of order or balance causing a disorder in the mind and body. Doshas are similar to the traditional western idea of the three basic body types – ectomorph ( leaner & delicately made), mesomorph ( built compact & muscular ), and endomorph ( built stocky). Ideologies say that most of us are built by these combinations.

The Ayurvedic philosophy preaches that everything in the world is made up of the tridosha, and these doshas combine 2 of the 5 elements of the earth, vata is ether and air; pitta is fire and water, Kapha is water and earth. A human body is prone to ailments and diseases when any one of these doshas in the body falls out of balance or is disordered. Bringing a balance to these doshas through ayurveda brings a balance to mind, body & soul and hence the truth, “science of life”.

Ayurveda treatment recommends counseling, meditation, yoga, ayurvedic oil massages, healthy living, healthy eating and natural ayurvedic medicine and remedies to help the mind, body & soul achieve balance. Unlike anti-biotic medicine ayurveda does not kill disease bound organisms by remedies the ailment by restricting the growth of these harmful organisms and ultimately gets rid of them from the body forever, this method in ayurveda is called detoxification where the harmful toxins of the body are eliminated, never to return.

Ayurveda can treat every kind of disease existing in the world. It can also give longevity to humans suffering from cancer.

Ayurvedic rejuvenation treatments:

Ayurveda has magnificent treatment and therapies for renewing the body & mind. According to ayurveda if the mind is deeply centered and settled, the body will naturally heal faster and age slower. Most of the treatments involve massages with the use of therapeutic oils and decoctions prepared from natural medicinal herbs. These oils are prepared using 50 or more ingredients and have a profound healing effect. For eg: Mahanarayana thailam, a famous ayurvedic oil, meant for panchakarma and rejuvenation treatment creates a remarkable healing effect when it is applied to specific points by our trained therapists during a session of massage.

One of the famous Ayurvedic treatment is panchakarma also known as detoxification. Panchakarma includes 5 major cleansing procedures which are all meant to purify the whole body by the elimination of the accumulated toxins. The  5 basic procedures or “shodhanas” are Vamana (Emesis), Virchana (Purgation), Basti (oil & decoction enema), Nasya (Nasal administration) and Raktamokshana (cleansing the blood).

The other treatments are Abhangya, Shirodhara, spine and joint care, rejuvenation, stress management, anti aging & beauty treatments.

Ayurvedic treatments are also used to cure lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol and all associated complications. These treatments given with yoga, pranayama & meditation assure a healthy life.

There are many ayurveda hospitals/centers and resorts of high standards where ayurvedic treatments are administered. These wellness packages ranges from $1000 - $10000 depending upon the period of treatment and the standard of the resort. Especially Kerala, in India is the hub of ayurveda with exotic beach resorts to backwater resorts.
