If you want to step back in time and experience a sophisticated slice of the Argentinean life, a part of Buenos Aires bygone era, simply slip in to the regal neighborhood of Recoleta. The largely residential neighborhood hit its stride at the end of the 19th century and in to the roar of the 1920’s when the architectural boom caused the construction of a number of chateau-like residences built that were reminiscent of those in the Loire valley in France. Everything from fixtures to chandeliers, lamps and mirrors were brought over from Europe to meticulously authenticate the look of that European lifestyle.

Today the largely residential neighborhood is peppered with classic old school coffee shops that provide windows in to today’s local lure. People vie for just the right table, then gather for hours over very expensive cups of coffee and animated conversation. Tourists tend to soak in the local ambiance en route to one of Buenos Aires most visited spots, the iconic Recoleta cemetery where their own Eve Peron was buried.
