The UK job market is flourishing and is becoming an increasingly hospitable environment for recent graduates. It’s because of this that international students are choosing to stay in the UK to work after their course has ended. Graduate jobs can open you up to a long and fruitful career, and here are some tips to help international students through the process...

Graduate recruitment:

Graduate employment can be split off into two different sections, which are graduate schemes and the direct entry process. The direct entry process is open to the masses, but is easier to apply for, whereas graduate employment schemes can be much more selective. Graduate schemes also often have a bigger salary and are for a fixed term, whereas direct applications are ongoing and are subject to lower salaries due to the demand in the market. Graduate schemes face fierce competition, so it’s important to feel confident in your grades before you commit. Before you begin searching for jobs, it’s always a good idea to refine your linkedin profile and to make sure that you are confident with your CV.

Boosting your employability:

Extra curricular activities will set you aside from the masses of people who are also applying for the same position as yourself. Be sure to fully utilise your time at university by joining societies, by joining clubs and by giving back to the community. There are going to be hundred of people who are all applying for the same position, who have all done the same course and who have the same academic background, be sure to provide something extra to the table so that you can ensure that you are going to get the employers attention and that you are going to be brought to interview stage.

Immigration regulation:

As an international student, there are important rules that need to be followed if you decide to stay in the UK. For example, it’s important to make sure that you have the correct visa. When your student visa runs out, you will need to make a UK Visa Application, which will ensure that you are able to stay and work in the UK after graduation.

Job hunting can be a long and tiring process, but keep going at it as you will eventually find the perfect company to work for. Keep working on your CV and working on your interview technique and you will find that success will come.
