Shopping is an something that most travelers love to do. While on vacation it’s always fun to practice the art of hunting out the most exotic and exclusive locales with the most original products or, even better, getting a bargain for that special item you always wanted but couldn’t afford.  And Cancun is a destination with more on offer than you could have imagined.  Losing yourself in enormous shopping malls and haggling at the stands that line the plazas can really make your stay in this Mexican town a 5-star experience! It’s also a tax free zone so there are some great bargains to be found if you’re looking!

Here are some of the places you can go shopping:

In malls like La Laguna with over 150 stores, you will find sophisticated products and the best brands.  Located in the town’s hotel zone, it is built around a maze of canals and bridges that lend it a Venice-like feel.  As well as the stores, there are a great many restaurants and cinemas showing movies in English and Spanish.

Plaza Kukulkán and Luxury Avenue are similar. Both are situated in the same hotel zone and boast world exclusive boutiques.  Here you will find everything you ever dreamed of having but never dared to buy at home.  It also has a wide range of high class restaurants and cafés, as well as a bowling alley, in case you need to come back to reality with a moment of recreation.

But if you’re looking for something more general, Plaza Flamingo and Plaza Caracol are the places for you.  In both malls you will find endless products, from big brands to small souvenir and craft shops, as well as any kind of object you might need during your stay in Mexico.  Add to this the wide range of leisure and restaurant facilities, and you can see why these are unmissable places to visit.

But if this is not enough and you are looking for the same stores you will find anywhere in the world, head to Plaza Las Américas.  Very close to the hotel zone, it boasts outlets for the best known brands in the world as well as English and Spanish cinemas and many restaurants. You’ll find anything you need here.

For those who prefer something a little more traditional, Mercado 28 offers something different to the rest with a great many stalls selling Mexican handcrafts, souvenirs and jewelry at half the price you would pay in the hotel zone.  The explosion of color is the perfect complement to Plaza Bonita – a recreated Mexican village with facades representing different regional architecture, wrought iron balconies and everything just as visitors would imagine Mexico to be like.  Full of craft and art boutiques, locals say that if you don’t find the perfect memento in either of these two places, you won’t find it anywhere in Cancun.
