Morocco's Mediterranean Beaches

The city of Berkane is located in the Moulouya valley, at the foot of the Beni Hassan Mountains. Far removed from mass tourism, it is the center of the agricultural region of Trifa and is a dynamic zone which focuses on greenhouse cultivation. Its beaches, the longest in the country, are tranquil stretches of sand on which to disconnect from the bustling rhythm of life in the cities and let yourself be rocked by the waters of the Mediterranean.

Among them, Saïdia beach, one of the longest in Morocco at 14 kilometers, takes its name from the fishing village which still today conserves the idyllic flavor and image of the past. Its shallow waters, warm temperature and gentle waves make it perfect for visiting with children.

Ras el Ma beach boasts some magnificent views of the Chafarinas Islands and is by no means short either. Its 10 km of fine, golden sand are surrounded by eucalyptuses and it possesses a wide variety of services in the town from which it takes its name.

Another of the beaches on which tourists can find a long list of services, and which can be reached by car, is Arkmane beach, a magnificent 7-km stretch of fine sand and lukewarm, tranquil waters.

But for visitors in search of unspoiled beaches, Playa Roja is the place you must head for. Surrounded by lush vegetation and natural dunes, it is a place of great ecological interest and has been considered a protected zone.

Playa de la Bocana is another of those corners in which lovers of undeveloped areas, who don’t mind a little difficulty in reaching their destination, will find peace and tranquility. This seven-km beach is perfect for disconnecting and enjoying the peace offered by the Mediterranean.

The beaches of Nador, for their part, also form part of a protected natural area, making access a little difficult. This group of very long beaches is particularly highly valued by those in search of peace and tranquility, and, among them, those of Bou ‘Areg stand out.

Do not miss: If you are looking for something more than just beaches, close to the city of Berkane you will find the incredible El Zergral gorges and the caves of Camel and Pigeons, discovered in 1908 and where paleolithic remains dating back to 80,000 years B.C. have been found.

IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts has a 5-star all-inclusive vacation complex close to Berkane: the IBEROSTAR Saïdia, situated right in the heart of the Sahara facing a 14-km beach.”
