Agadir
is a mostly Berber city situated in the southern part of Morocco. Above all, it owes its interest to its location, as it is surrounded by the Anti-Atlas, the Sahara Desertnatural parks and isolated beaches of great quality, which can be easily accessed from the city. It has a miraculous climate and the sun shines an average 300 days per year, which makes it an ideal destination for relaxed vacations by the seaside, along the beaches to the north of the city..

The terrible earthquake which Agadir suffered in February 1960 is no more than a bad memory; it has been rebuilt from top to bottom and now paints a beautiful picture. The new medina, with carefully-designed, original and innovative urban planning, where the Moroccan soul still exists, is well worth a prolonged visit, just like the old Kasbah, which, although it lost its crenelated walls in the earthquake, offers an incredible panoramic view of the city, the port and the bay, particularly if you go at sunset.

Don’t forget a stroll along Boulevard Hassan II, a magnificent promenade, with its pedestrian streets and numerous restaurants, boutiques and stores, which divides the city center and, together with the Avenue du General Kettani, Avenue des FAR and Mohamed VI avenue, constitutes the vibrant center of the modern city of Agadir.

Agadir is also known for its picturesque markets (the most famous and one of the biggest in the Maghreb region is theSouk Elhed), its Berber culture and its remains.  Just like many other markets in the city center, the central market is famous for the variety of spices on offer, the majority of which are locally produced.

Lovers of nature will have a great time in Souss Massa national park, a nature reserve situated to the south of the city, which is home to a great number of migratory birds such as pink flamingos, storks and even the most significant colony of bald ibises in the world. Towards Tiznit, to the south, the almond path is an trip which allows you to gaze at amazing landscapes such as the Anti-Atlas: palm trees, magnificent pink granite blocks which redden with the sunset and the many almond trees which produce sine qua non parts of the delicious Moroccan gastronomy.

Finally, a hidden gem: Quartier d’été, situated 27 km to the north of Agadir, is a real hidden gem. An excellent mixture of traditional Moroccan cuisine and French cuisine. Don’t miss out on the dessert, it is out of this world!

IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts has a 4-star hotel in Agadir: the IBEROSTAR Founty Beach, boasts a bank of fine sand just opposite its facilities and is close to the center of Agadir, the main tourist destination in Morocco.”
