Delta Lake near Rome, New York, is another great getaway in Oneida County.  The lake was created when a dam was built in 1908 on the Mohawk River to guarantee sufficient water for the expanded Erie Canal.  Today, the lake is a multi-use area great for camping, fishing, hiking and other nature-related activities.

For a relaxing view of the dam and lake and an excellent meal head to historic Delta Lake Inn, which was built in 1903 to house the men who built the dam. It later became a stage coach station and then a speakeasy serving bathtub gin.  There may have been a short time when its reputation was tainted by the resident painted ladies.  Later it became a restaurant and then, for many years, it stood idle.  Today Delta Lake Inn has been completely remodeled in a comfy Adirondack style. The popular dining establishment has five dining rooms, a bar, a piano bar, a banquet hall, and a dining deck with a great view.

They are open for lunch and dinner and feature a Sunday brunch. The extensive menu offers a variety of freshly prepared items.  The menu of the popular Sunday brunch often changes but usually includes a Champagne station. Every dining experience should end with one of their delectable dessert such as "Ms. Cynthia’s award-winning Southern white chocolate bread pudding." Life is good at the Delta Lake Inn.
