Sabuk is a striking lodge perched high on a cliff overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River. The lodge's interior has a homely feel with the open dining room and sitting room furnished with colorful cushions, hand-crafted furniture and woven rugs. The exterior is in harmony with the surrounding locale and incorporates local materials, twisted wood and stone boulders.

Luxury Holidays to Laikipia, Kenya

Safari activities at Sabuk Lodge include camel treks which can be tailor-made to suit all ages and levels of fitness. These unique trails are led by the trained Laikipiak Maasai guides across the dry-lake bed or following the river path across the plains.

More traditional ventures include game drives, guided walks and fishing. This part of Laikipia is real wilderness, a vast and varied landscape dotted with acacia, Euphorbia cacti and giant rocky outcrops. Of unique design, the main lodge and five cottages are all open fronted to make the most of the spectacular views over the river gorge and the distant outline of Mt Kenya.

The cottages feature twisted hardwood and stone boulders as part of the décor, and have giant hand carved beds and en-suite bathrooms. (The sumptuous stone baths in cottages 4 and 5 are particularly recommended, so long as you don’t suffer from vertigo).

Children are welcome and early mealtimes, huge day beds and separate cushioned areas are geared to make holiday life easy for families. Activities include night and day game drives, walking safaris, lazy hours relaxing by the river and bush breakfasts – all of which are tailored to suit individual requirements. Sabuk also operate camel safaris which prove a highlight for many who visit the lodge. They are led by Samburu guides, who share their bushcraft and tracking skills as you walk or ride on the camels.
