Oktoberfest will take place for the 179th time and rock & roll Munich for almost 3 weeks. The beer feast will begin on 22 September and run till 7 October this year. The city will change into a folk festival with people wearing traditional Bavarian outfits all these days. You will find it surprising to see women hurrying to work on bike in colourful Dirndl (traditional Bavarian dress) in the early morning. Men wear leather trousers and chequered shirts in the office and Wiesn - where the Oktoberfest takes place.

The festival starts with breweries' beer barrel carriages parade through the city streets to Wiesn - located in the centre of Munich, where the mayor will tap the first Oktoberfest barrel. The carriages parade is one of the most spectacular attractions. Aside from a great range of local beer choice Oktoberfest offers traditional cuisine and amusement park.

Oktoberfest time creates an opportunity not only to visit the city but also to see Bavaria. Motorways system is well developed in Germany which makes car hire a great treat for countryside escapes. The Alps can be reached within one hour drive for those who love hiking. Munich is surrounded by beautiful lakes like Ammersee or Starnberger See, where the footballers and celebrities have their country residencies. Hire a car in Munich and see the best of the region during the day and come back in time to Wiesn!
