Once part of the Soviet Union, this moderately Muslim country in the Caucasus & on the Caspian Sea is still under the radar but has plenty to offer touristically, including steppes, mountains, UNESCO World Heritage sites, spas & health tourism.
John, if you're not gonna make it all the way to Almaty, then you should at least think about Baku... Awesome city... and Hg2 Baku is coming next May....
