Profile Information

Are you in the travel industry or travel media? If so, please specify.
I'm a freelance writer and photographer specializing in travel, environmental issues, and international development.

As a journalist, I write for a variety of magazines, newspapers, and online publications, both in the United States and abroad. I write about various aspects of travel but am most passionate about responsible travel, sustainability, nature/wildlife/ecotourism, philanthropic travel/voluntourism, and authentic cultural interactions, as well as soft adventure (kayaking, hiking, camping, etc.). I'm also interested in emerging destinations and the things that make any destination unique.

As a copywriter, I work with businesses and organizations who want to stand out in a crowd. To attract the attention you deserve, you need to inform, engage, and inspire your target audience. Effective communications is about connecting with people in a way that resonates with their needs, concerns, and interests. At its heart, it's about telling a good story. I help you do this through articles, website content, brochures, reports, and other written products. Simply put, I find the words to show the world who you are and how you are different. My clients include travel and outdoor recreation companies, cultural organizations, nonprofit organizations working on global issues, and businesses that are striving to be sustainable and socially responsible. I am also experienced at working with non-native English speakers who want to reach a broader audience.
On which destinations & travel topics can you advise members especially well?
responsible/sustainable travel, adventure travel, volunteer and philanthropic travel, Scandinavia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, other Latin America, Mongolia, Pacific Northwest, U.S. Southwest, New England
What destinations are you most interested in learning about?
Emerging destinations, sustainable tourism destinations, nature/wildlife travel destinations
Other travel / language expertise?
Lead adult educations tours (museum & alumni travel programs, etc.)

Never mind the politics -- this Central American country may be on its way to becoming one of the next hot eco-tourism destinations, with unspoiled coffee country, beaches, volcanoes, and friendly people.

It's truly remarkable how much this small Central American country packs in, from shimmering beaches to live volcanoes to mysterious cloud forests. Despite pockets of overdevelopment, it's still an eco-tourism wonder. As they say in CR, "pura vida!"

Hi Annika ~

I noticed in the eco-travel group that you're looking for relevant projects for an upcoming trip you're taking to Central America. I would suggest you check to see what projects the Peace Corps is working on in that area. Many volunteers work with conservation projects which you might be interested in learning more about.

Cheers,
JoAnna

Good evening, Annika, and welcome to Tripatini! Great to have you with us -- and we think you'll find our site productive as well as interesting and enjoyable.

To get the most out of Tripatini, you may want to take a moment to join several of our many groups which you may find of particular interest, such as Media Only, Eco/Sustainable Tourism, Eating/Drinking the World, Hotels/Motels, Mongolia, Learning/Language School Vacations, Oregon, Washington State, our Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese language/culture clubs, and plenty of others covering many topics and most destinations across the globe.

FYI, on your profile you'll see a green bar marked "Text Box," which you can turn into a box containing not just text but also photos and even videos about yourself, your interests, your travels, and your writing/outlets.

Finally, if you would, please be so kind as to spread the word among your travel-interested friends, family, colleagues, associates, and readers. It's fast and easy to use our "INVITE" function above left on the navigation bar to enter e-mails (even your whole list at once!). If you have the opportunity to cover us in any of your outlets, that would of course be greatly appreciated, and if you might be interested in occasionally blogging for us, guidelines/rates are available upon request.

Thanks much for joining us, Annika; we wish you an outstanding rest of 2009 and look forward to seeing you online.

Cheers!
