Turkish pop prince Tarkan is still going strong at age 37. This week the Tripatini blog checked in to see what he's been up to lately. Check it out!

Max, since that was a British travel industry study, I'm sure it relates more to hotels and other industry rates, as well as general prices in tourist zones. But I daresay if you head out into where the real people live, costs are probably still quite a bit lower than Spain's.

Here's an interesting item from TravelMole.com. Guess you could say it's more proof of how much of a crowd-pleaser Turkey has become!

Turkey now more expensive as holiday destination than Spain

"Holidaymakers to Turkey face paying more for tourist items, despite being seen as a value destination outside the eurozone.

While the Turkish lira has weakened by more than seven per cent against sterling in the past year, a new Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer reveals a price hike of almost 44% for meals, drinks and other holiday items.

The country has dropped 14 places in the barometer table of 30 worldwide destinations to 22nd position, making it much more expensive than Spain."

Izmir is great and if get a guide book you will see how very much you can do in day trips from there, including Ephesus being about 45 min. away. Join the Turkish-American Cultural Center for starters. I lived there 3 years and loved every minute.

Greetings! A new member, Jazcat, has requested info for her upcoming visit to Turkey:

"My husband and I will be traveling to Turkey in a couple weeks. We will have 7-10 days in Turkey, he is going over to work with his company but we are going over early to travel. I would appreciate suggestions on best places to see and best use of our time.

I expect we will spend 3-4 days in Istanbul then take the ferry/train down to Izmir where he will be working. Any suggestions on places not to miss in Istanbul would be appreciated.

In Izmir, is there anything interesting to see. I was hoping to get to Troy but see that is a 5 hour bus ride from Izmir and wondering if it is worth it. Kusadasi/Ephesus is much closer to the south. Any suggestions on how to get to Kusadasi from Izmir, not sure if a bus or maybe a taxi/tour guide would be good.

Thanks for all your help."
