Hi Brendan,
I visited this area just over a year ago, and was very impressed. Coimbra is a lovely city, and the further east you get towards the Spanish border, the more rugged and remote the terrain becomes. I hope it is as productive for you as it was for me, as to date I have written about a dozen articles for various different outlets. I've put links to a few below, as they may give you a few useful places to look out for.

Thanks Trevor that's really kind of you.
I've looked at your pieces and they've given me a great insight into the place(nice research work too). I know lisbon and its surrounding are quite well but never been to Centro so thanks for the taster.

If I can return the favour any time just ask (Croatia, Eastern Europe and East Africa would be my specialities)

Trevor, many thanks, you weren't wrong.

What a fantastic place Centro is. I only got to spend four days hopping on and off a bus, but already I've decided to go back and check it out in more detail.

I'm still trying to get over the wonderful varieties of food and wine available, the great scenery, the friendly nature of the people and of the course, the value for money.

Thanks for you heads up on the place it added an awful lot to my trip.

Try Southern Finland next, if you want another 'waiting to be discovered' gem... particularly the archiapeligo...

Southern Finland has always been a big favourite of mine since the days when I worked in communist Russia and would sneak off at weekends to 'sample the West' for a few days.
