Pets on the Go!

More and more, Fido and Fluffy have been coming along for the ride (and even the overnight). But if you've tried it you know how much complication and expense it can add. Here are ways to minimize both.

Happy New Year and Greetings from the finally snowy mountains of Vermont!  Winter here at the Silas Griffith Inn is full of wonder, quiet, plenty of places to relax and lots of things to do for everyone.  Start your day with a custom cooked breakfast with our own farm-fresh eggs, Vermont Cheddar cheese, local milk and more.  Then enjoy amazing outdoor sports, indoor museums, shopping, great restaurants and one of the best independent bookstores in New England, the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester Center.

This year we're offering a FREE 3rd night when you stay 2 consecutive nights.  Can't take a 3-day weekend?  No Problem - We'll take 15% off any 2-night stay.  Want a longer vacation?  Call us and we'll mix and match the specials to get you the best rate on your vacation! Our winter specials run through March 30, 2013.

Did I mention that we have a huge meadow right here for snow shoeing?  A great little hill for sledding and sled? And that we are just 21 miles from Bromley, 26 miles from Stratton and just 34 miles from Killington? Or that Okemo is 27 miles away and Pico just 30 miles to the north?  How about a romantic sleigh/wagon ride to a bonfire and s'mores right here in Danby?  Shopping? - we have the Manchester Designer Outlets just 14 miles south.

We're very friendly - pets, kids, couples of all ilks, reunions, retreats.  We are now part of the Vermont Ambassador Program and a Vermont Info center.  This means we can help you find almost any information you need to plan your escape.

By the way, we also offer pet walking so if it is too cold for Fido in your car, we'll check on him while you're off enjoying the mountains!

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for considering an Independent, Family owned and operated Vermont Bed and Breakfast for your next vacation!  Happy New Year!

The Silas Griffith Inn is proud to announce its New Summer mid-week specials - all King/Queen/Twin rooms just $99/night and still includes breakfast!  Enjoy hikes, shopping, museums, theater and more without the weekend crowds.  Or just sit and relax in this quiet Historic Inn/B&B in the quaint little village of Danby, Vermont.  Family friendly and pet friendly! Ask about other specials and weekly rates.  Now available - dog walking is included in the pet fee, so if its too hot or cold Fido can stay comfortable in your room.

Hello!  We own The Silas Griffith Inn in Danby Vermont and are a pet-friendly Inn.  We are family owned and operated, and pet lovers ourselves.  We have fields for walking and playing, are close to Manchester, Vermont and the Dog park and agility area, near the Green Mountain National Forest for hiking and walking and exploring.

We have a minimal pet fee of $25 for the complete stay, which includes water and food bowl, treats for your pet If allowed (we do check, since some animals do have food allergies or are on diets), and if you need to leave your pet while you go someplace either because you are going out or the weather is not conducive to your pet being left in the car, we will check on him/her and walk/clean the box if needed.  And, after you leave, we do a complete vacuuming with our pet-certified and HEPA certified Dyson so that all our 4-footed companions are as protected as our humans are!

Some weekends we have more four-footed guests than human guests.  We've had dogs so small they fit in your purse to one so large we set up a roll-away for him, cats, a couple of rabbits and even a guinea pig as guests!

We look forward to having all of you as our guests when you travel to Vermont!  And Thunder, our aussie, would love a play date!

The Greenwich Village Halloween Parade for people is more famous, but today was the Washington Square Park costume party for dogs. Superman Schnauzer, a collie dressed as a lion, a pug as a pirate, a bulldog bumblebee. The bulldog's owner was also dressed as a bumblebee, albeit with less success. This is my favorite doggie destination for Halloween; do you have one you like even more?

At the bark park today with Benny, my alter ego, I struck up a conversation with a woman who had a rare dog -- so rare that I'd never seen one before. She told me her husband had gotten the dog in England, but the carriers that serve London would not let this 3 1/2-month-old puppy fly in cabin.

"So how'd you get your dog to New York?" I asked.

Any guesses? (No, he didn't rent a corporate jet.)

Check out Kaleel Sakakeeny's blog post, featured on the Tripatini home page today, about the horrible death of those seven innocent puppies. Thank God our little guy in under 20 lbs and fits under the seat!

Seven puppies have died on an American Airlines flight from Tulsa to Chicago. It must have been a horrible death for them. How can we get the airlines to treat pets more humanely?
