I'm heading to Prague, Vienna, and Budapest this summer along with a few other countries. I want to find some activities or sights that aren't so touristy in these three cities. Tourist season will be in full swing and I want to avoid it as much as possible. Anyone have any ideas for some things to do that are off the tourist track?
Take the U-bahn to Heiligenstadt station and walk up to Leopoldsberg. A great hike thru vineyards with fantastic views of Vienna and the Danube. There are many good paths for biking along the Danube, on Donau Insel and around the city. Vienna has a city-run bike rental system with racks of bikes located around the city. There is also hiking in the Donau-Auen National Park.

Definitely recommend checking out Hundertwasser's work in Vienna - there's a pathology museum there that's supposed to be pretty interesting and macabre. In Budapest, check out the nightlife near the Jewish quarter. DM me if you want the name of a cool bar we went to. There is also the summer opera film festival in Vienna with great food and drinks outdoors. Lots of locals there. We have posts on all of these cities with some off the beaten track stuff on our blog if you want to check them out. Enjoy! =)
Just beware of the tour guides who advertise themselves with signs around Charles Bridge. Many are unlicensed, and you will not get a good tour for your money.
