Has anyone stayed at Dunn's River Falls Resort (Jewel)? it gets very good reviews, but a few have mentioned that the beach is small. How small?? Narrow? Short? Any Palm trees? Crowded?
And of course, how is the resort in general.
Thanks.
Hi Ed

Permalink Reply by Dawn Downes Nagel on December 13, 2011 at 11:26am I stayed at the Jewel in January 2011. It is a beautiful resort. We had an amazing time and wish we never had to leave. The beach is small - it is not a beach that you could take long walks on but the resort grounds are beautiful and we did our walking there. It has a pier at one end separating it from the Riu and a fence at the other separating it from the locals. I heard there is a gate you can go through to walk the beach and visit the vendors on the other side of the fence but I can't confirm that. There are some Palm trees on the beach, and beautiful cabanas. We didn't find any parts of the resort crowded. We never had a problem getting a lounge chair around the pool or on the beach. It is a small intimate resort. The staff are amazing and take the time to learn your name. I have never felt so pampered or relaxed in my life. Any other questions about the Jewel, feel free to ask. I have pictures of the beach but as I am new to tripatini I have no idea how to post them.....
Thanks! I was hesitant to go because we really like to sit and read on the beach, and also take walks, but overall, the resort sounds great. Did you go to the falls? Play golf? How is the food? How was your room?
Permalink Reply by Dawn Downes Nagel on December 13, 2011 at 12:03pm David - we went to Dunns Falls - I highly recommend it! It was a great time. Try to avoid the vendors at the end. They were by far the pushiest people we ran into in Jamaica. Did not play golf - there is a course at the resort but it's small.... Lots of beautiful golf courses in the area though. The food was AMAZING! My favorite was the smoked pumpkin soup. The food at the Jade was okay but the show and experience put on by our chef 'Tywong' more than made up for it. The Platinum was our favorite restaurant. All dinners are a la carte and reservations only needed at the Jade. We were in the Sapphire building room 2522 - large rooms, huge balcony, bathroom a bit small but not too bad.
